EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a method of psychotherapy that incorporates the use of bi-lateral stimulation of the brain (with eye movements or other methods) to help clients reprocess traumatic memories.  The process in effect “redigests” memories that have not been stored properly because of the high degree of distress that was experienced.  EMDR has also proven effective in the treatment of panic attacks, phobias, performance anxiety, and complicated grief.  For more information on EMDR, go to the EMDR Institute website.
